really depends on what you want I suppose, I created my site http://www.simplysnaps.com using hosting from http://www.newportpagnellhosting.com they provide loads of free tools and a free site builder program that has loads of templates for site layouts. The cheapest package is $6 a month. If you have any questions please give me a shout and I'll help however I can.
I would like to state that I run the hosting company just so no one thinks this is a sneaky ad rather than an answer to a question

Honestly, I think getting a host and running your own site is the best way to go. It's also probably the most difficult, requiring a lot of different skills, but it gives you ultimate freedom to do things how you'd like.
If you go that route, you should have a look at a site called "Open Source Web Design." I don't have the URL off hand, but they should be easy to find. There are a couple thousand web site templates; you can find one you like, and just fill in the blanks.
To do that, though, you'll need to edit plenty of html. You might want to look into software to help you with that, from Notepad++ ( open source, free ), Microsoft Visual Web Developer ( free, but kind of overkill, I don't have the URL ), or Dreamweaver ( expensive ). And then an FTP client like WebMaestro ( free ) to upload your files to the server.
If this sounds like a lot of work ... well, it kind of is. I like having my name for a URL, no ads, and control over every little detail, but if those things aren't worth the elbow grease, you're better off with one of the photo sites. I haven't tried any of them, so I can't recommend one over the other.

I am more than happy to recommend Clikpic!! I was sent the link by a friend, after weeks of trying to decide which way to go and could not be happier with the site.
There are a number of templates and colour schemes to choose from and look more than professional enough as an online gallery. I am only paying £50 per year, which includes my own .com domain name and storage space for 120 images!! It is so easy to manage the content yourself and any updates are made 'live' in 3 - 5 minutes.
Check out my site if you want at http://www.andrewnewey.com or visit clikpic.com for their full range of templates
Hope this helps?!

| Andrew - no product links please - we end up with every spammer on the planet then thinking they can freely post links to their photo products - clickpic does plenty of advertising they don't need our help
