Hi,
Disclaimer: following is purely my personal point of view and I will gladly take it back or discuss it further if other people see it different or if I'm proved mistaken.
I have my site listed in Fine Art Nude Photography (as many other photographers also I do more different styles, but this one is prevalent). I have noticed that within this category there are other sites listed, which might be more suitable under Photo Indexes and Resources. Since ranking is based on hits sent in, website of a regular photographer can never compete with banner farm and traffic generators such as a few of those listed in my category. Don't get me wrong, everyone wants as much traffic as possible and even us, who run our own personal website have links to other sites such as this one to generate more traffic. However primary purpose of our sites is to showcase our work, these links are secondary. Because personal sites are not so traffic exchange based, there is no way any of us could rank as high as these banner farm do.
I would suggest that sites which are not personal photography websites be listed under Photo Indexes and Resources to also give a chance to personal websites which under no circumstances can beat banner farms in incoming traffic.
The only reason I am able to rank high, is because of my high search engine ranking. My google page rank is 5/10, with some searches I'm as high as 1-3 position in google, but I'm also on first page of msn under nude Photography and I get over 2000 unique visitors a day as a result of my high ranking. Yet I can never beat any of those traffic generators. So how is a regular photographer whose site is not ranked so high, supposed to get traffic in return, when most of it goes back to banner farms.
Just my humble opinion,
Mark
