A designer by trade, here's a little thing I learned long ago about success in design...
.....use type (fonts) in simple and/or amazing ways.
In your body text I would kill the varying type sizes. Unless it's just showing up for me weird that way in Firefox that is.
For your artistic statement I would give some margin around the text so it isn't running edge-to-edge inside the box. Space framing a subject, in this case your artistic statement, will make the text more readable.
Nice photography, and good job for doing the website all by hand.
