Hi All ,
I am new to the world of slr photography and have been doing my research since last 2 months, & i guess i have just touched the surface (barely) . What advice will a Pro give to a Amature like me when it comes to choosing between Digital or Film Slr. I was all go for canon 20 D until i read all those problems with dust on the sensor and hence spotty pictures . Please i want honest advice .So , help me here .

I shot with film for many years and I must tell you that the best thing I ever did was switch to digital. Yes, dust is an issue, but there are means to deal with that.
The question you should be asking is what you intend to do with your photographs. Digital photographs are easily edited and improved using a variety of software packages. If you shoot film, sooner or later you will be scanning slides and working with them on a computer. That is, if you plan on marketing your work extensively.
You may wish to consider a camera that does not use interchangable lenses. For example, FujiFilm has just announced a new 9 megapixel camera with a 28-300mm zoom lens, and the street price will be below $500.
If you want a DSLR, you can't beat the Canon 20D, although there is a rumor of a larger MP camera coming out in August with a way of dealing with dust issues.
Good luck in your photography. There is nothing quite like it, it can be frustrating and also highly rewarding.

Hiya mate ,
Thanks for the advice , well i thought on the same lines - want to go for the new fujifilm 9 mp camera as my point and shoot and wait for canon to solve all these dust and freezing problems before i decide on my SLR ,yeah the rumor is that they might come out with 20 d replacement early next year , well i can wait that long . what camera do u use now ? 20D ?

| I use the Canon 1Ds now, but I have shot with the D30, D60, 10D, 1D Mark II, 1Ds Mark II, Nikon D1x, Nikon D100, Nikon D2x. My current interest is the next Canon, said to be a 22 Megapixel camera to be released sometime early next year. What I have learned from shooting with all these cameras is that the lenses are more important than the camera body. So, for now, my investments have been in good glass, with a long way to go.

Hiya ,
pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew ! you blew me away , well thats an amazing variety u have used . Thank you so much for taking some time and replying to my novice questions. I don't know what to say am in awe  .  okay another question ! How do you control stopping down in a digital camera i mean upto f16,22,32, is the command in the camera or the lens dials & whats the max. stop down for cannon 17-85 mm IS usm lens , if u have used one ?
