| I recently purchased a Canon20d SLR and the pictures I have took with it look great on the camera's LCD, however, when I download the images to my computer, they all look dark and underexposed. I have to work with each image using Photoshop to correct the exposure before I can print it. I am using the sRGB setting recommended by the Canon owners manual. Help.

If you feel the exposure is correct, and the histogram should tell you this (see this link if you're not familiar with how to read histograms: http://www.earthboundlight.com/phototips/histogram.html ) then have you calibrated your monitor recently?

| Yes, my monitor is calibrated and images downloaded from my Canon G1 look as good on the monitor as they do on my G1 LCD. I have taken both outdoor and indoor photo's with my 20D and bracked exposures. They look properly exposed on my camera LCD but all appear very dark or underexposed on my computer monitor and when I print the images, they all appear dark and underexposed. I need help in determining what the problem is and how to correct it.

How are you transferring files to your computer? Using a program or just Windows? Are they RAW files? Could be that you are seeing just the jpeg previews on your camera and something is going wrong with RAW? Have you tried extracting the jpegs if you are using RAW? Use the Canon EOSViewer software to extract. Are you using a card reader or straight from camera?
Try taking jpegs (not RAW) and viewing straight from card on another device with a monitor, i.e. a printer with preview monitor, or another computer, or another canon camera. Is it just your computer? Reload camera drivers if using the cable from camera to computer.
I know my 10d has a setting of some sort for 2 different types of transfers. I don't have it front of me right now, sorry. Make sure this is set right if you have this feature.
Just trying to come up with some ideas. Good luck!

| Thanks very much for your info. I will try viewing the images on another computer monitor. I am not using the RAW file mode, only JPEG.

increase the exposure ? how much longer ?
perhaps try using a wider aperture or increasing the iso - the latter will also increase the noise but test it against the longer exposure
