| I am considering purchasing a speedlight for my Canon 20D because the camera's built-in flash does not give me the proper exposure. I would appreciate some info and recommendations on the various speedlights that are available for this camera. Thanks, Martin

| I am not a Canon shooter but my advice is get the best one you can afford and preferably Canon equipment - Canon will list which one are compatible with the 20Ds metering system and buy a cable to allow you to use it off camera that is handy for closeup work

I've had a recent play with a Canon Speedlite 580EX attached to a Canon 350D and was thoroughly impressed with the results. The owner of the flash was over the moon with it. The impromptu indoor shots I was taking at the time were significantly improved.

Hi Martin,
I would wait until after PMA - Canon haven't relesed anything for a long time so there is a good chance they will grab at this opportunity (after all as they have done each year). They are gonna introduce something major for sure, I would wait with any purchase to see what they came with.
When it comes to Canon flashes for a digital SLR, you do want to make sure you're getting EX series. Canon also have EZ series flashes, which look exactly the same but will NOT work with digital SLRs. 580 EX is their latest one with most accurate exposure metering so you definitely wouldn't want to go for anything other than that - it'd be a waste. But do wait until the convention is over.
